Die SATW - wer ist das?
Die Schweizerische Akademie der Technischen Wissenschaften SATW wurde 1981 als privatrechtliche Vereinigung ins Leben gerufen. Sie will den technischen Wissenschaften und damit dem Lande dienen.
Als nicht kommerziell orientierte, politisch unabhängige Dachgesellschaft mit gegen 150 Einzelmitgliedern und zurzeit ca. 60 Institutionen und Gesellschaften bildet sie einen Zusammenschluss aller technischen Richtungen der Schweiz.  Sie ist die jüngste der vier nationalen Akademien.
Ueber ihre Mitglieder - die Fachvereinigungen, die Einzelmitglieder und ihre korrespondierenden Mitglieder in aller Welt - bildet sie ein Forum für Kontakte zwischen den verschiedensten technisch-

wissenschaftlichen Gebieten und ist deshalb hervorragend geeignet für die Durchführung multidisziplinärer Aktivitäten im Bereich der technischen Wissenschaften. Aktive Forscher und Ingenieure aller Berufsrichtungen, der Industrie, der Schulen und der Forschungsanstalten tragen bei zur umfassenden Behandlung anstehender Fragen.
Das Bundesgesetz über die Forschung anerkennt die SATW formell als eine der nationalen Institutionen der Forschungsförderung. Es spricht ihr wichtige Aufgaben in den Bereichen Kommunikation, Austausch und Koordination auf nationaler wie internationaler Ebene zu. Die SATW beteiligt sich aktiv an der Erarbeitung der schweizerischen Wissenschaftspolitik.

La SATW se présente
L'Académie suisse des sciences techniques est une association de droit privé fondée en 1981.  Elle est au service des sciences techniques dans l'intérêt général du pays.
En sa qualité d'organisation faîtière politiquement neutre et sans but lucratif, la plus jeune de nos quatre académies nationales regroupe actuellement - outre ses quelque 150 membres individuels - environ 60 institutions et sociétés réunissant toutes les disciplines techniques représentées en Suisse.
Les diverses associations professionnelles affiliées, ses membres individuels et ses membres correspondants dans le monde entier font de la SATW un carrefour d'échanges privilégié et un creuset d'activités interdisciplinaires dans le domaine des sciences

techniques: issus d'horizons couvrant aussi bien l'industrie que l'enseignement ou la recherche, les scientifiques et ingénieurs qui l'animent contribuent ainsi à une réflexion globale sur les problèmes de notre temps.
Le statut d'organisme national d'encouragement à la recherche, formellement attribué à la SATW dans la Loi fédérale sur la recherche, lui confère un rôle clef en matière de communication, d'échanges et de coordination au niveau tant national qu'international. En Suisse, la SATW participe en outre activement à la définition des objectifs politiques concernant la science.

What is SATW ?
The Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences was founded in 1981 as a private association. Its intention is to serve the technical sciences and therefore the country.
As a non-profit organization with about 150 individual members and, at present, about 60 member institutions it forms a reunion of all technical branches in Switzerland.  It is the most recent of the four Swiss academies.
Its individual members, its corresponding members across the world and its member societies constitute a forum for contacts between the numerous technical and scientific fields.  The academy is specially qualified for multidisciplinary activities within the technical sciences. Specialists and engineers in all branches active in industry, universities and research institutes

contribute to a thorough understanding of actual problems.
The federal law on research formally recognizes the SATW as a national institution for the promotion of science. It assigns responsibilities in the fields of communication, information exchange, and coordination on the national and international scene. The SATW takes an active part in the definition of the Swiss science policy.
